Buy a used longtail bike — the agile cargo bike alternative
A longtail is a bike with an extended rear frame instead of a box at the front. That's why it rides like a normal bike: just as narrow, just as agile, and you can simply park it in a normal bike rack. At the back there's room for two children or a decent load of groceries. For families who find a cargo bike too bulky or too wide, this is often the answer.
Urban Arrow Breeze from the rental fleet
The longtails at BikePlace are Urban Arrow Breeze, model year 2026, with a maximum of 2.500 kilometres on the clock. They come from the rental fleet of Fietsverhuur Zeeland, where they were ridden for a season by different families and went through our workshop between every rental. Brakes, tyres, lights, battery and drive are checked each time. So you're not buying an unknown used bike, but a bike with a documented history.
Longtail or cargo bike — which suits you better
The rule of thumb: with children up to about four, you're often better off with a cargo bike, because you can see them and easily lift them in and out. Once they're older and climb on by themselves, the longtail wins on agility and ease of parking. A longtail is also more pleasant on narrow cycle paths and in busy traffic. If you mainly do shopping or carry a lot of luggage, the box is more practical again because everything stays within your field of view.
Twelve months of warranty, including the battery
Every Premium used longtail comes with twelve months of BikePlace warranty on the frame, motor, battery, display and drive. If the battery fails within the year, we'll fix it, regardless of brand. Gradual loss of battery capacity through normal use isn't covered. The coverage on battery, motor and display can be extended to twenty-four months for 99 euros.
